I feel sooo much better now. I am sitting on my futon (which is still in need of a slipcover), laptop in my lap (with a connection), and looking around me at a box-free apt. Phew.
There are still some things to do - like that pile of clothes on my adirondack chair to be folded and one IKEA shelf still needs assembling. And then those books will be off the floor. It can wait 'til tomorrow though.
Tonight I will just have a long bath - i'll grab a book off the floor to read - and then I will watch my most recent dvd purchase and go to bed happy.
I might have missed the sun today, but rain or shine i will go to soccer in the morning and kick a ball around and be happy then too.
Horray for me!
Ok, today is organizing day. Today is the day that i take all plastic bags and all unpacked cardboard boxes down to recycling downstairs. Today is also the day I put those little stickers on the bottom on the futon, so when i slide it in and out for guests its easier to move and doesn't scratch the floor. And all books will get off the floor and get put on the bookshelves. And winter clothes will find a spot in the closet. Maybe I should be getting started.
Honey Nut Cheerios first though.
And I have to remember to try to switch my Thursday shift with someone so I can go see Katie Melua at the Mod club. Katie is... hmm... maybe like the British version of Norah Jones. And with my great love of all things British - I must go. I can't wait to buy her cd too. I called the Mod club and she is apparently coming with a full band and piano. Sounds amazing.
Since i bought this apt i've been trying to save some money, and not buy anything too frivolous. The problem is that there is this great kitchen store not far from my house and there is a very nice, small (good for storage or use by one person), lettuce spinner. But it is $25. Eek. Tough to rationalize that.
Anyhow, Cheerios then I get started. I will try to change my listening choices (at right) to reflect what is motivating me to organize today. No doubt I will be looking for reasons to procrastinate.
I hate mornings. I mean, i really don't like them. I like sleeping in. But this morning i had such a good reason to get up that (even though its only 8am) I'm ok with it.
A friend of my Dad's was driving up and thru Toronto and had some extra space in their truck, so they packed up a bunch of my things from PEI and dropped them off early this morning.
I had just started to get things looking relatively organized here, after unpacking suitcases and hockeybags and unboxing and assembling all my IKEA purchases. Now things are back to looking like a disaster, but not in such a bad way. At least I have all my things in one place now. Its just a matter of unpacking and finding a place for everything. Its like Christmas opening all these boxes and finding my things. I am especially happy about the new pairs of shoes i just got from home. Nothing beats having more shoes to wear... except maybe air conditioning.
Well, i should get started on my day. I have to start work at 9am. Its supposed to be 30 degrees C this afternoon. It got up to about 38 yesterday. Ick.
Make sure to look around you today and enjoy your well organized apartments or houses and the cool breeze you feel on your way to work.
cool. I've got a decent connection for a sec here - must be time for a post.
The first weekend in my new place was great!! I spent time hanging out with Nate and G around town, and ER and Brenhan. Good times. Susy gave me a microwave (oh, hello microwave pocorn!) and Vimal gave me an iron (did i look that bad at work?).
ER is just reminding me that we should go to McDonald's tomorrow for huge salads and get her a Step-O-Meter. I have mine but haven't worn it since I moved in. I should've this weekend tho - with all the walking we did...especially around IKEA! uh, did i mention i spent about $650 there on saturday? no? ok. nevermind then.
but i should go before this connection does. i still have another shelf to assemble anyways.
more tomorrow - hopefully.
ps - personal trainer gave me a few more pointers today. how can i go back to just working out on my own? who will say "c'mon Melda just 5 more. you can do it!"?!?!? yeesh.
Hooray - c'est vendredi! My friday pm plan was to head straight to the ROM to check out the Egyptian exhibition on loan from the British Musuem. No such luck. Nate and I had to queue up half a block down Bloor, around the corner from the Museum entrance. I guess it was everyone's friday pm plan. Instead we went to the GAP and got some groceries. Looks like pizza tonight - which is fine with me - Delicsso has great tasting sauce. It almost tastes like delivery. Note to self: buy some pots.
So now i am home and washing out all my new cutlery, bowls, plates, mugs, blender, ice cube trays, etc. All ready for use now.Starting to feel like a real apt more and more everyday.
Geoff arrives tonight. Any time now actually. I'm pretty stoked - haven't seen him since I went to Ottawa for my birthday. I will call him at 8pm and meet him at the subway. Which reminds me. I am so behind on putting up new photos. Will have to get back to it soon. Now that i am back online one could/should/would anticipate great things coming your way.
I can't believe its still so bright out so late. Gotta love summer.
ok, this post will be a quick one. nate just got here about an hour ago and he's already found me a wireless connection from my apt. WHY COULDN'T I DO THAT?!
anyhow - things are coolio here in downtown T-dizzle. i am loving it. i mean, who wouldn't love 1.5 hrs more sleep in the morning?!?! i haven't tried the pool or gym in my building but i did have my first personal training session at Bally's today with Cory. MAN! It was crazy. Crazy good that is. I feel great.
Anyhow, I shouldn't be rude to my guest (Nate). Actually, he shouldn't be rude to me! He was the one who found this connection afterall - and he was only inside my apt. only 10 minutes!! Oh, well. Can't teach an old dog new tricks.
I'm out. But expect to hear more, what with my new-found free time and all!
Just wanted to leave a quick note to say that I am now back in Toronto (read as Ajax) after a totally relaxing holiday on PEI visiting family and friends.
I just came back from having nachos (my regular) at WC Fields for supper with Edith-Rose (ER) and Brenhan. I am stealing some time on ER's computer to let you know that my internet is currently unavailable until i move into my new apartment and get it set-up there (read as June 8th at the latest). I might have to run to the library to make a few posts as i get set up.
But i am indeed looking forward to having free time due to no commute. No doubt you will be hearing from me more. And i am looking forward to that. All of it.
I also just joined Bally Total Fitness tonight. I got a great deal through the bank that i couldn't resist. Never thought i'd be a Bally's girl. I'll let you know how it goes.
Ciao for now.
Well, the weather is looking kinda blah.
Up for a road trip? My mom and I are heading over to Saint John (NB) to visit my grandmother for a couple of days since i have sooo much time here on the isle this time (especailly compared to my whirlwind Xmas trip).
Hey, if no sun, why not fog?
After an incredibly long trip home, and an even long day of work before that, I finally find myself at home on the island. It was a fun (read as - long, harrowing, computer-tech talk ridden) journey, which ended brilliantly with butter-chicken curry (great suggestion Nick) at Churchill Arms for Dan's Bachelor Party prelude.
Now I am back in my old room on Fox Run Drive. And I must say, there is absolutely nothing like sleeping in your old bed again. Nothing! I am going thru all my things, mostly old photo albums (Britain, Europe, Australia, PEI, and everything in between) and deciding that i want to take EVERY photo back with me and maybe try to frame every third photo because i love them so much. Maybe I will post some of them here at random. Hey, I like to share, what can i say?!
I must decide too what has to come back with me to Toronto to poulate my new apartment - about which i am very excited. Basically that means rummaging thru the basement and asking Mom & Dad every 5 minutes "can i take this too?" And so far so good, they are saying yes. Hmm... maybe its because i just got home though. I should try to box some of this up, should they decide to change their mind before this 2 weeks is up.
