I saw my breathe while walking home last night.
I guess winter is really almost here.
I arrived home from work today to find one of the castors broken off of my tv table, and my 27" tv pitched forward onto the floor. It lay face down, surrounded by glass.
To make matters worse, it managed to clip the corner of my beautiful new coffee table (only 2 weeks old). It now looks as if someone had folded the corner over to save their place.
Brenda's cat Amir was meowing and hiding in the front closet. He appears to be ok, but shaken. I was just stunned.
I don't think I can even lift the tv up by myself. I've swept the glass up as best I could. Sherry said she would come to help with the rest in the morning. (thanks in advance lady!!).
So much for watching the Man Utd vs Tottenham tomorrow morning. Damn.
Is this an omen? Am i suuposed to stop watching tv? Read more? Yeah, I'm probably supposed to be reading more. Right now, i think i'll just lay on the couch and try to slow my heart. Maybe John Legend can help.
I'm always happy when I can find a good value organic substitute to something I always buy. And I'm happy to report that today that’s just what happened!
I met Angi at
Whole Foods today for tea/coffee and a muffin, and to get some groceries. Whole Foods is a gorgeous Organic grocery store (which I will now try to get to on a regular basis). Today, while there, I came across
Harmony Organic milk.
I was pretty excited because the Harmony company combines both organic products and recycling – two things that I think are pretty important (just ask my roommate). My skim milk comes in a glass bottle labeled “Please Rinse and Return for Deposit.” I can return it to the store when I go to buy my next litre, and it’s returned to the company in Bornholm, Ontario, to be refilled and resold.
For the future, I will make a point to get my milk (and other items) at Whole Foods solely.
And don't forget your cloth bags to carry the groceries home!
The GAP had a promotion on a while back, where if you tried on a pair of their jeans you were given a card/code that awarded you a free song download with iTunes.
Visana reminded me on Friday that they were about to expire. So, i went online today and registered a profile and uploaded (?) my 4 song credits. Then i became quite overwhelmed.
I mean, where to begin?
It is very difficult to just choose 4 random songs that you don't already have. Do you choose something you've never heard before? Or look for older songs you've forgotten about? And how do you start to search? By genre? AAARRRRGGGHHHHHH.
So far I managed to choose Kanye West's newest - Gold-digger (featuring Jamie Foxx). I was thinking seriously about sigur rós, but which 3 songs would i choose? At least it is something I have none of, but would like to test out.
Anybody have any brilliant ideas?
I'm sad to see my Flyers losing at home to start the season. They held them off as long as they could I guess. I was also pleased to see Lindros get a goal, only sad that it is now a benefit to the Leafs.
I went to go see one of the Leafs (vs Senators) pre-season games at the ACC (I got free tickets from work), and they were probably the best seats i'll ever have to watch a hockey game. I'd love to see Leafs vs Flyers, but it'd cost a fortune and i'd probably get beat up.
I was also amazed to see how the games were all consistantly high scoring (except for the Ontario derby). Is the new red line rule making so much difference so soon?
I have been working a lot of overtime lately. The most since I've started with my current department. I guess I'm really becoming a banker after all. Ha!
I don't always mind. Most of the time I find my work very satisfying, and very rarely do I find it to be tedious. But I'm starting to wonder how everyone around me has managed to get involved in, and sustain, committed relationships while being so attached to work. Maybe I’m doing it all wrong. But I digress.
I happily went to go see Metric in concert at the Phoenix last week, accompanied by Daniel and Monica. There were two opening acts (The Lovely Flowers and ?. some other band who I don’t remember). Metric was definitely worth the wait though. She (Emily Haines) was terribly impressive. As Jaime said, “I think everyone in the room had a crush on her by the end.” Too true. I will definitely try to catch their shows when they are back in town again. If you get a chance, check them out.
But I must run and see if my brownies are done. I’m doing a test batch for the bake sale on Friday at work. Visana’s going to help me decorate them all Halloween-y. She keeps saying something about it not being a competition. Any idea what she means???
So, finally October has arrived. And we've had some really cold days and night already.
I love the fall though. I am very much a jeans, sweaters, and scarves, kind of girl.
But it seems that Mother Nature just can't make up her mind. This weeks forecast is in the 30s, with humidex, for Monday-Wednesday. And then a high of 8 and 9, for Thursday and Friday, respectively. Yikes.
And it seems like everyone is sick right now too. I imagine it is the same where you work or go to school. I'm not sick yet. knock knock knock on wood.
Just keep washing your hands and eating well!
When I was living by myself I didn't have cable. I never really cared about what crap was on tv.... except maybe English Premiership Soccer on Saturdays. And now I do get up at 7:30am each saturday, throw on my jersey, and watch Man Utd play, and then tape the rest of the games and go back to bed.
But since I moved in with Brenda (who couldn't live without cable) I've become a bit addicted. I actually have, eek, "appointment television". I watch almost religiously 3 shows:
X-Files - ahhhhh. David.
My So-Called-Life - I am soooo happy that this is on tv again. Altho, it is hard to get thru a show without crying.
SPY - a BBC reality show, how to be a spy. Amazing.
But, this is perfectly normal right?
I'm so happy with the weather cooling down. I hope that it lasts longer than this week. I'm beginning to think that the summers are too hot for me here in TO. With the humidex (feeling like it was 40+) it was too hot to even appreciate that it was sunny. I miss the breeze from the ocean.
This week it is much better! Still, 24 degrees in the afternoon, but there is a coolness in the air that makes me excited for autumn's arrival. I can't wait for jeans and sweaters and scarves. Ahhhh.
