It has definitely been a while since i've had a Saturday all to myself. No company and no committments. Ahhhhh. I didn't even get out of bed until 12:30pm.
And i promised myself no stress today. So my activities included going with ER to Humber Bay Park to feed the ducks and Canada Geese. Basically that was it. We wandered around and took some photos, but that was pretty much it. We dropped off for a quick bite on Queen St West and jetted into HMV to see if there was anything we needed. I was amazed at my ability to escape without a purchase. My Velvet Revolver cd is holding me over right now - Fall to Pieces is on repeat.
Tonight has involved laundry. The washing of underwear and fluffy towels. Necessities for the week ahead. But i think i will let you go for now and watch Director & Crew commentaries on The Cooler dvd.
I will try to post tomorrow after soccer and then going out to see Bourne Supremacy. I'm very excited about both.
Nite for now.
Ok, ok. So maybe it wasn't exactly like that. And to be honest I don't think that would've particularly thrilled me. But it should be noted that i am among the minority on this one.
Showing up to work this morning for 10:30am there was already a line that encircled the Manulife Centre on 55 Bloor. The reason? A book signing by President Bill Clinton at Indigo. And don't get me wrong, I would sit in the heat and wait to have a book signed too - for Clive Barker, Jonathan Lethem, Ethan Hawke - but not Bill Clinton. And i hear your questions forthcoming: Then why, pray tell Melda, did you throw yourself into the fray to get the above photo? The answer is simple...
A do have a few things that i wanted to say... but i am so tired. Probably tired because i just came from a late dinner with Izzy and E-R at Hernando's. Its an old re-named Mexicali Rosas and E-R and i like to go there sometimes as a nod to the east coast.
And we had a reason to celebrate!!! Yeppers, i'm very happy to be able to say that i got the Commercial job!! SWEET DEAL! I start on August 23rd. I will be sad to leave all my Quest personal banking buddies but am excited too to go to Commercial, everybody seems pretty fun there too. And are the rumors of more money and less work true? I'll let you know. Thanks to everyone for their positive thoughts (especially you Mandy).
Another bonus is that Daniel has arrived! So its nice to have another friend so close by in the big smoke. I will bring him to soccer on Sunday and see if he remembers how to play. Will we have to start having Ontario Blogger meets Al?
But i am off to bed. Just taking a spin thru the new Velvet Revolver cd first. But i am half asleep listening to it. I think Slither is the next track, so i'll go to bed after that.
I first heard of Faithless while living in London (2000-2001). They had just put out a song called We Come One, which led me to seek out God is a DJ, etc.
Their latest release is called Mass Destruction. The song itself has a bit of a Karmacoma (Masive Attack) feeling. I like the song but it was the poetry of the lyrics that made me want to hear it again. I'm not sure how many of you have heard this song, I couldn't find a link to it (sorry) but i'm sure it can be downloaded somewhere.
So, i just thought i would share it with you here, if you are interested you can go on and read the song lyrics:
Well, the whole fam-damily has arrived.
Picking G up from the
airport was a bit of a chore. He came in a few minutes earlier than expected but
as soon as we hit the collector off Hwy 410 to get onto the 401 we got caught in
a major traffic jam as a result of a major accident. By the time we got
back to my apt it was 1:45am. Which makes for a happy me, since i had to work at
8am.
Anyways, that's in the past now. The biggest highlight since
finishing my work week was having a wonderful dinner with Mom at (vegan
restaurant) Fressen
(thanks for the suggestion Dean) while Dad and G were out at the Liverpool vs
Porto match.
Today will be all about walking around (Kensington
Market, Chinatown, etc). Then back here so that Dad and I get our stuff together
to head to SkyDome to watch Glasgow Celtics vs AS Roma. I am thinking about
wearing G's Totti jersey but am a bit afraid that i will get spit on. I will be
sitting in section 128. Come say hi if you're around.
Right now, this very second, I am listening to the new Pearl Jam album (double cd). And it is good. Very good in fact. But alas, I am bias.
I am kinda tired, but I know that i will not sleep great anyways because i am nervous about my interview tomorrow. And my parents aren't here afterall. They didn't quite get as far as they'd hoped today, so they are staying tonight with Geoffrey in Ottawa. So here i sit listening to Pearl Jam and looking thru my closet for the perfect hire-me-for-commercial outfit.
I actually found out quite last minute (like a few hours ago) that Serena Ryder is in town. Had i known earlier i definitely would've gone to see her. Serena is Hawksley Workman's first signed artist to his label Isadora Records. She plays tomorrow night as well, at 9pm at Rivoli here in Toronto, but my parents will be here. I will have to wait 'til next time she is in town. In the meantime, I will hunt up her cd. Has anyone heard her music? or seen her live? If yes, do tell.
Just wanted to make a quick post here about a cd that i bought when i went to the Hawksley Workman concert a couple of weeks back. There were only 2 cds available among his merchandise - Lover//Fighter (are there people who still don't own that?!?!) and a new compilation titled "When We Were Security Guards". To steal some prose from another site it is...
"a tour-only CD ...which features early, early Hawksley Workman material. It's a ten track CD, and features 3 songs that some of the more devout Hawksley fanatics out there may already have ('Watching The Fires', 'What Could I Tell You?', 'Your Naked Body On The Beach'), but is absolutely worth it if you're a fan of his music. I must repeat, that this CD is only available while Hawksley's on tour."
And it was a steal of a deal for only $15! Mine is signed. :)
I wanted to show it at right, where i list what i'm listening to, but i can't find an image of the cover art - which is nice and simple. I wanted to make sure you knew it was out there, for HW fans such as myself, I'd hate to have you out of the loop.
Things are really looking up around here!! At least two pieces of good news were received by me today:
- i got an interview for the Commercial position that i applied for (its on thursday - HOORAY!)
- Pearl Jam's new full-length acoustic cd, At Benaroya Hall October 22nd 2003, was released today (i will be picking it up at Sunrise Records on my way to work tomorrow).
Not bad, eh? Also, tomorrow my parents will be arriving for a few days. At which time i will get to give Dad his birthday present (which Al greatly assisted me in hooking him up with). I just couldn't bear to send it in the mail, I must see Dad's face when he opens it. Which reminds me... i must wrap it.
Another month has flown past and it has been over two weeks since i've written here last
YIKES! Things have been a bit hectic, even stressful in places, but thankfully it has been injected with some positive moments as well.
A brief overview would have to include: completing the entire set of computer based tests at work (
which means a raise for me - HOORAY!), finding a cool new place to hang out, making some new friends, having
Mandy &
Andrea come to visit... Madonna, me applying for a transfer/promotion at work, Izzy arriving from Vancouver and trying to get settled, having my first apt get-together, and managing to get thru three whole weeks without buying a book (
i think that's a new record).
So since I am somewhat back on track here I will renew my committment to writing here. I will have some interesting things to mention too, since my family is coming up from PEI Wednesday and my brother will fly in from Ottawa on Thursday night. The reason for this rendez-vous is, of course, soccer. What else can bring the Gibson's together like a match of the world's most beautiful game?? Ok, so maybe Mom isn't as thrilled as Dad, Geoff, and I. But I will spend some quality time with her on friday night while G & Dad are at the Liverpool vs Porto game. And G will spend some quality time with Mom on saturday night while Dad & I go to see Glasgow Celtic vs. AS Roma. Good times.
Anyhow, that is my alarm ringing to remind me to go down and throw my laundry in the dryer. More soon.
